Phil was loosening the stud nuts on the boiler. Another view of the boiler destined for 1178. This boiler is actually the original boiler from 323 - Bluebell, when it arrived on the railway in 1960. Ian and new volunteer Duncan were cleaning up the boiler tubes and adding a protective coat of paint. The boiler is now in the works and work has started on removing foundation ring rivets The front end of the barrel is also being cleaned up, ready for it's new tubeplate. Some of the stay heads have been removed as well, as parts of the boiler plate will need replacing. The team were split up into pairs, with them working on a side each. Plenty more work to do yet! Duncan is seen here needle gunning the foundation ring. The new backplate being trial fitted. It will be cut down to size once we are happy with the fit. Another view of the new backplate. Since this photo was taken we have started to form the plate for the front section of the firebox. Phil and Ben check what work needs to be done to clean up the edge of the existing plate now it has been cut. The spare boiler is now in the works and being prepared for it's fittings to be added 592's ashpan Work continues on the tender Work involves looking for any holes The motion has been suspended from a temporary support 592 next to SECR sister loco no 65 A stack of boiler tubes await cutting to length 592's boiler in the works 592's new ash pan The ash pan awaits completion of the boiler By the end of the day all the tubes had been cut to length. The frames and tender are now back in the workshop Work continues on the spare boiler 592's wheelsets have been removed from the frames One of many jobs is overhauling the steps if 592. The steps will be reattached at a later date. Work is progressing on replacing corroded plate work. The Slide Bars have now been cleaned up Work Progresses on the boiler 592's frames.
